Marvin Gaye - What's Going On Medley

When Marvin Gaye recorded his groundbreaking album What's Going On he experimented with different recording techniques. His favoured version had the rhythm section playing in front, resulting in the predominant bongos you can hear below. It was Motown boss Berry Gordy who decided to release a more conventionally recorded version instead, but the “original” version eventually got released 30 years later.

At least that's how the story goes according to Jay Negron, who put together this medley and put it on SoundCloud. You can download it from the Monotape website, where I first discovered this.
