February 24, 2013 The Tusk Dance EP is out now!

Shafiq Husayn – Cheeba

Cheeba is the second single -or at least the second video- taken from Shafiq Husayn‘s acclaimed solo album on Plug Research with vocals by the one and only Bilal.

The video was directed by Kahlil Joseph, who is also responsible for Aloe Blacc’s I Need A Dollar video.

Shafiq Husayn – Lil' Girl

A preview was making the rounds some weeks ago, now the full video of Shafiq Husayn‘s Lil’ Girl featuring appearances from Erykah Badu, Talib Kweli, Jay Electronica, Thundercat, and Wood Harris is online.

The track is, of course, taken from Shafiq’s album En’ A-Free-Ka (iTunes link) and features Fatima on vocals. You can listen to the full track on Fresh Selects, where you can also get a download.

You might also want to check out some other videos from director Greg Ponstingl or visit the Plug Research page on Vimeo.

Happy Birthday, Flying Lotus

Last week, the mighty Flying Lotus celebrated his birthday. What better way to celebrate is there, but invite some friends in and play some music with them.

That’s what the the people at ArtDontSleep must have thought, so they invited Exile, Shafiq Husayn, Stephen Thundercat Bruner, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Computer Jay, Isaac Smith, Jim Lang, Alla Koi, Andres Renteria, Matthew David and The Gaslamp Killer to get together for a jam session.

Luckily, this Birthday Jam was recorded and properly mixed. You can listen to 33 minutes from that in the player above or download it to your iPod.

I also want to remember you of similar jam sessions, that I mentioned here before: the Love Supreme LA Jam with Mark de Clive-Lowe and the Skid Row AM Session.

Skid Row AM Sessions

An epic jam session with musicians Pharoahe Monch, Shafiq Husayn and Om’Mas Keith of SA-RA, Brook D’leau of J*Davey, Mark de Clive-Lowe, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Thundercat, and more took place in Los Angeles this summer. You previously might have heard this older audio-snippet, today here’s a new video from ArtDontSleep.

I’m pretty sure you also want this for your iPod!

Let’s start with this Brownswood double feature, jazz pianist Elan Mehler gets the remix treatment from labelmate Dobie. Only available for the next seven days! Another remix comes from Recloose, who put his hands on a tune by Shake Aletti.

The new single from the upcoming album The Roots is now available from Okayplayer. Singer Eska is featured on a lot of album recently, here’s her rework of an old Police track.

XLR8R is giving away a free track by L.A. beatmaker Ras G from the upcoming compilation Echo Expansion. And a couple of days back Fresh Selects posted a new one by SA-RA’s Shafiq Husayn featuring Fatima.

Okay, I’m leaving you alone already!
