Resident Advisor Podcast by Anthony Naples

RA.455 Anthony Naples

Anthony released his debut album Body Pill this week, a record I haven’t listened to enough to make up my mind yet. What I did enjoy tremendously is his guestmix for the Resident Advisor podcast series. Music from Led Zeppelin, Tim Hecker, Terry Riley, into a proper selection of house and techno.

Press play and read the interview on the RA website, where you can also grab the download.

Weekend Mixtapes #36

Digger’s Digest out of Paris made a great french jazz mix for the Jazz Meet Radio Show by Nik Weston, pure vibes. I definitely need more of this in my life.

Similar to this, Gilles Peterson made a mix of his favourite british jazz funk records for Ninja Tune’s Solid Steel Radio. Still not enough of Mr. Peterson, you could listen to Majestic Mood’s new Groove Merchants radio show which has a nice little interview with him.

Cologne’s Damiano von Erckert did the latest mix for Radio Juicy. Playing Sun Ra next to Omar S is always appreciated.

And in case you missed it -which would be hard to believe- FunkinEven did this week’s mix for Resident Advisor. Proper house music with some nice exclusives.

Tetsuo throws in two more mixes, Bullion‘s latest on the Boiler Room mix and James Murphy playing at the DFA 12th anniversary party.

Have a great weekend!

Weekend Mixtapes #35

We’ll keep it short this week, because basically we think that you can’t ask for much more when Resident Advisor puts out a podcast mixed by Kyle Hall and XLR8R responds with someone like Omar-S. Well, we secretly hoped that a third party, say FACT Magazine, would jump in with another from Theo Parrish, but of course that didn’t happen (they have L-Vis 1990 this week!) Anyway, the before-mentioned third generation of Detroit producers also have new releases in store: Kyle Hall’s debut album The Boat Party and Omar-S’ Thank you for Letting Me be Myself.

Since we mentioned them on our Twitter stream earlier this week, let us also notify you about the new Beats in Space guestmix by Four Tet and Bibio’s podcast for The Fader.

All good, see you next time!

Weekend Mixtapes #31

Okay, I’m in the middle of something and I’ll be gone for a couple of days. So, this will be a very quick rundown of mixtapes worth checking out this weekend.

FaltyDL invited Loefah and Dego to play with him on NTS Live
Kyle Hall B2B FunkinEven at the Boiler Room
Pépé Bradock did a very special mix for Roof.fm
– Detroit’s Rick Wade was invited to play on the Smugglers Inn podcast
Jam City on the latest Resident Advisor podcast
The New Jerusalem hosted by Bullion
– …and another Boiler Room session by Jeremiah Jae

Have a nice weekend all!

Real Scenes: Johannesburg

A couple of days ago, I watched Resident Advisor‘s latest addition to their Real Scenes series, a portrait on the vibrant house scene in Johannesburg. Like the previous installments on Bristol, Detroit, Paris and Berlin, it gives interesting historical background on the music coming from the city, just that Johannesburg is a place I don’t know an awful lot about, making it a special episode.

Mixtape Monday #31

Haven’t done these in a while, but this week there are enough mixes worth a mention. Shall we start?

One-Handed‘s Dedication series is one of the more exciting podcasts, each episode being dedicated to just one artist. This time it’s Mr Beatnick who shares his love for Sun Ra on his eclectic mix (he wrote about him before!)

Next up is something I’ve mentioned before in a side-note, the second podcast by the Tempoclash crew. And it’s a special one as Danny Breaks doesn’t do many mixes these days.

There are many varieties of house music, here are four mixes representing four different styles: Joy Orbison for Resident Advisor, Recondite’s mix for Hush House, a new Linkwood podcast, and some deepness from Sven Weisemann.

LuckyMe‘s Dominic Flannigan and Claude Speeed provided the soundtrack for the The Goodhood Store‘s fifth anniversary, 100 minutes of ambient music.

If you always wanted to download Kelpe‘s Ping mix for oki-ni, you can now do so for a limited time!

Weekend Mixtapes

Good morning, this is your weekend speaking and this is what you will be listening to (apart from this!)

I could’ve sworn there had been a Four Tet mix on Solid Steel earlier this year, but apparently it’s his first guestmix since 2001. Don’t miss!

With the Olympics over, London’s Kelpe went all sporty and came up with this table tennis inspired mix for oki-ni.

With his much anticipated debut album finally out on LuckyMe, Vienna’s Cid Rim sat down with Urb Magazine to do a little interview and guestmix.

Due to our holidays, we missed the Untold podcast for Resident Advisor – and who would want to miss that?

And lastly, Hudson Mohawke and Lunice are sharing the uncensored version of their recent Essential Mix.

Update If you’ve enjoyed our latest podcast by Huess, let me point out there are two more available at Dipped in Dollars and You’ll Soon Know.

Mixtape Monday #28

So, I haven’t been posting anything as of lately and it might in fact go on like this for a little more. Thought I through in a selection of mixtapes that popped up during last week.

It was only a question of time until the big ones asked Vakula for one of his rare mixtapes. The Ukrainian house producer put together a selection of his tracks for Resident Advisor and answered some of their questions.

This Wednesday, Ninja Tune’s Slugabed joins Thundercat and Floating Points for a show at London’s Fabric. On the occasion, he did a mix to promote the night.

Berlin-based Machinedrum did a mix for Dummy Magazine last week. If you’re into the records he’s playing, I can also recommend Nightwave‘s podcast by Dazed Digital and Mike Paradina’s personal selection of footwork influenced tracks for RBMA Radio.

It was back in April when Manchester-based Krystal Klear graced Benji B with a guestmix. Unless you downloaded this one before, you can listen to it on SoundCloud and leave some direct feedback on this excellent mix.

And lastly, let me mention these older mixtapes I came across: Blawan’s mix at Boiler Room, Deadbeat for Inverted Audio, and Recloose‘s 2002 guestmix for Gilles Peterson.

Resident Advisor Podcast by Dexter

As Dutch producer Dexter steps up for his Resident Advisor podcast, we hope we can make up for not sharing any mixes recently. A look at the tracklist reveals why we think so.01. Hudson Mohawke – Cbat
02. Untitled – Shake It Massshhh
03. Lone – Moon Beam Harp
04. A Made Up Sound – Rear Window
05. Dexter – Space Booty
06. Boddika – You Tell Me

Don’t hesitate and download this fine mix. Hit play and read the interview while listening.

Mixtape Monday #25

This was supposed to be a collection of mixes for the weekend, but since Ms Riot was in town over the weekend..

Just hot off the press is the latest Resident Advisor podcast mixed by Martyn. As you all know, his new album arrived today, so maybe you want to listen to this mix on your way to the shop.

The last couple of mixes by Tropics became all-time favourites in no time, so I’m really looking forward to this new one for oki-ni.

2000black founder Dego is currently on tour through Japan. I wonder if he really needs promo mixes to fill clubs over there, but he made one just in case (and for everybody outside of Japan.)

And from there it’s easy to draw a line to Eric Lau’s Last Night on Earth mix for Put Me On It, which went online a couple of days ago already.

Set The Tone is already one of the biggest dance tunes for me this year, so I’ve been following all of Ossie‘s activity since then. Last week he came up with a mix for the Hyponik podcast and it’s a good one.

Jacques Greene was on Rinse FM last week, Phon.o contributed a mix for Electronic Beats, and the Boiler Room‘s back to back from Quest and Silkie is online.

One of the most anticipated albums for this month should be Severant by Kuedo. The other week he guested on the FACT podcast and I think he also made a mix for Mary Anne Hobbs.

If the last one in this selection gets any extra attention, then it shall be Sotu the Traveller‘s mix for DJ Broadcast.

Update This one just came in, it’s an impressive 95 minutes mix by Bristol’s Appleblim for FACT Magazine

Real Scenes: Berlin

Following stops in Bristol and Detroit, the latest episode of Resident Advisor‘s Real Scenes brings us to the city of Berlin.

Through words by Dixon, Apparat, Tresor founder Dimitri Hegemann and many others, the story of underground clubs and the rise of techno in Germany is told.

Mixtape Monday #23

Here’s a micro-edition of our popular Mixtape Monday, featuring four new mixes and another we slept on before.

Let’s start this with Ital Tek‘s summer mix for Percussion Lab. The man will be on an extended tour through the United States in October. Listen to the mix and you’ll know why you want to go.

Barcelona based Cardopusher first came on our radar when he released his (highly recommended) album Yr Fifteen Minutes Are Up on Tigerbeat6. For FACT Magazine Portugal he contributed a mixtape containing music off that album as well as some unreleased joints.

George Fitzgerald had some strong releases on Aus Music and Hotflush this year. We also liked his mixes for URB Magazine and Sonic Router. He has made another one, this time for Resident Advisor!

Remember Sonar Kollektiv? They released a podcast mixed by their very own Stee Downes to promote a label night going down in September.

Lastly, here’s one we slept on before. It comes from Braille, who is one half of Sepalcure, and was released for Hotflush’s podcast series earlier this summer.

Resident Advisor has an interesting article on The rise of streaming club music, featuring Boiler Room, Dublab or Percussion Lab.

DFA’s Juan Maclean has released a 12-inch under the name of Peach Melba. The standout track the dub of dub version, which all Rhythm & Sound fans must download immediately.

Will Saul’s Aus Music is preparing a Japan exclusive compilation of some of its back catalogue. It’s cover artwork well crafted and Save Vinyl shares some photos of its making. Selected Works will be out next week and if you must you can get it from HMV Japan.
