Weekend Mixtapes

There are some classic MoMA PS1 mixes that I still listen to every no and then, like those by Prefuse 73 or FaltyDL. The latest edition comes from London’s Om Unit and it has all it takes to become another classic.

As warm-up for this year’s Dimensions Festival, Aus Music’s Midland has done a mix for the XLR8R Podcast.

Following his brilliant mixtape for our own podcast, London’s K15 has come up with a new one. On X/O he once again proves his knowledge across genres – recommended download!

Restless Soul’s Phil Asher plays house and techno classics made in the city of Detroit.

I said it before and you probably know by now: Boiler Roomis always worth a visit, but I’d like to highlight Shlohmo‘s DJ mix from the LA edition some weeks back.

And lastly, an insane 12-hour mixtape I came across via Gilles Peterson‘s blog: Black Classical takes us on a journey through 57 years of Spiritual Jazz. No typo – 12 hours!

Weekend Mixtapes

Let’s see, you got new mixtapes from Flying Lotus and Dego this week. Looks like you’re well supplied for the weekend already, otherwise here are some more.

The Valentine Mix from Breakbot still does it for me, but then I found this new one on Crazy Birds and it’s just as good. Summer disco vibes.

This Saturday, New York’s MoMa is hosting a Warm Up party featuring an allstar line-up of Four Tet, SBTRKT, Matthewdavid and Falty DL. The latter also has warm up for the Warp Up, a mixtape hosted by The Fader.

Lando Kal did a mix for Rush Hour sublabel Direct Current, playing nothing but records released on the label.

Beat Dimension’s Jay Scarlett‘s plays some new music on the latest La Menuiserie podcast, and Daisuke Tanabe has put togehter a promo mix for CDR.

Of course you can go visit Boiler Room‘s website anytime you’re in need for a mix. Recent guest selectors include Scuba, Mount Kimbie (live), Mark Pritchard, Photek, Guido or Space Dimension Controller.

Tardy Bits

There were quite some things worth mentioning in the previous week, but once again I was away for the weekend. Rather than waiting for the next weekend, let me give you an update today.

Nicolay’s tribute to Bob James already made it on a lot of blogs I’m reading, still it’s too good to leave it unmentioned. So, if you havn’t heard this one yet, get this track from the unreleased compilation “Sampling Bob James: The Nautilus Project”!

In preparation for his gig at the MoMA, Prefuse 73 has put together this podcast for Flavorwire, containing tracks from the likes of J Dilla, Tim Hecker, Hudson Mohawke and others.

Another nice mix comes once again from Beats In Space, host Tim Sweeney was visited by Faze Action who did a guestmix for the show. I haven’t listened to the most recent show which followed a week later, but it comes from Alex from Tokyo and should be worth a listen as well.

Well, if all that isn’t dark enough for your likings, why not try Ben UFO’s Hessle Audio Mix recorded at London’s Fabric.
