Illum Sphere – Red Glass (Hieroglyphic Being Remix)

We’re only one week away until Illum Sphere‘s second album “Glass” drops on Ninja Tune, and so the label reveals a third preview on their SoundCloud page. Not exactly a preview to the album, but a remix from one of this tracks, delivered by Jamal Moss aka Hieroglyphic Being.

For more Illum Sphere related news, make sure to check out his guest-mix on the latest Hessle Audio show!

Roedelius – Remixes

So it turns out those Laraaji Remixes were only part of a bigger series by All Saints Records, the British independent label known for its ambient recordings by the Eno brothers, John Cale and Jon Hassell. In fact, the entire series is so good, you simply have to give it a try. Two patten versions included, Bandshell, Bee Mask – need I say more?

As for the latest Remixes, you get two reworks of Cluster co-founder Hans-Joachim Roedelius‘ music. Above you can listen to Hieroglyphic Being‘s take, but my favourite is the Peaking Lights version for its nod to 1980’s UK reggae.

Roedelius Remixes is out now on All Saints, get your copy from Bleep, HHV or Boomkat!

Weekend Mixtapes #32

Last Sunday, NTS broadcasted a b2b set by Jamie xx and John Talabot live from Miami, now the three hour mix is available for download/stream.

Zombie Zombie and I:Cube performed a one off live session at Paris’ Raspoutine, which you can listen to on SoundCloud.

New York’s FaltyDL has become a regular on our weekend mixtapes lately, so we cannot but mention his latest mix on Solid Steel Radio!

Chaicago’s Hieroglyphic Being grace the Boiler Room with a 40 minute mix, Bass Clef shares a new mix, and xxxy uploaded his latest show on Rinse FM.

Not exactly a mixtape, but a teaser to the upcoming Yatha Bhuta Jazz Combo album, a collaboration between Onra and Buddy Sativa.

And to finish off this week’s selection, here’s a true diamond: check out this massive Rhythm & Sound DJ-set recorded in Detroit back in 2006 (and don’t let those Windows sounds drive you crazy, unfortunately they’re part of the recording!)

Hieroglyphic Being – The Lost Transmission

Wow. What a heavy tune, easily the most genuine techno I’ve heard in a very long time. Chicago-based Jamal Moss aka Hieroglyphic Being first released The Lost Transmission on a highly limited CD-R back in 2010. More recently it made its premier on vinyl, thanks to the guys at Morphine Records. Copies are selling fast, but there are some left at Hardwax and Sounds of the Universe. Big up to RJC for the tip!
