Weekly Bits 35/2011

Our friends at Colectivo Futuro posted an article on Outliers Vol. 1, an interesting series of shortfilms on Iceland’s uncharted music with an soundtrack curated by Deru.

Now-Again has released an deluxe edition of Kashmere Stage Band’s Texas Thunder Soul 1968-1974. It not only contains the album on CD and 2LP, but also a DVD with documentaries and a making-of by B+ and Flying Lotus!

Britain’s Guardian wrote a nice article on photographer Elaine Constantine on her love for Northern Soul and her documentary of the same name.

Georgia Anne Muldrow has been working on a new album, which won’t be out before November. However, you can listen to some of its track over at Animated Car Tunes.

Another new album comes from Aardvarck, who just released his third album on the Dutch Eat Concrete label. Get your copy from Rush Hour!

German label !K7 did a Q&A with Motor City Drum Ensemble on his most excellent DJ-Kicks and how he worked putting it together.

More good mixes are coming by the way of Rinse FM. Floating Points did a nice Brazil special, Bugz in the Attic’s Daz-I-Kue guests the Digital Soundboy show, and Simbad played a three hour set alongside Mosca.

We mentioned Dego‘s upcoming live-show in London before, but Europeans can catch him on several DJ gigs as well.

Weekly Bits 22/2011

As we’ve lost one of the greatest, Gil Scott-Heron, many people dug out their favourite records and payed tribute. Check these from Gilles Peterson, Benji B, Twit One, Black Classical, Ennio Styles, DJ Mayhem, Cookin Soul, Melting Pot or the previously recommended JJ Smoking Sessions. There are probably 500 more of these, but maybe you should start buying his albums instead – if you don’t have them by now.

The city of Munich will host an exhibition on electronic pioneers Kraftwerk later this year in autumn. I’m particularly interested in its catalogue, Kraftwerk: 3D, which should make it to regular bookstores around the world.

FACT Magazine had quite some exciting album news this week, including Zomby’s Dedication, Silkie’s City Limits Vol. 2 and Björk’s iPad album. There were some links up for a stream of Zomby’s album, but they currently don’t seem to work

Frsh Slcts not only put up the second part of the Analogue Monsta Mix, you can also get a free Suzi Analogue EP from the same link.

More free music comes from Georgia Anne Muldrow, who gives away last year’s SomeOthaShip via Bandcamp

Aus Music’s Midland did an exclusive mixtape for URB Mag. So did Dego for W Hotels, but it’s kinda hard to find (click on Living Room, then switch to playlist mode.) Lastly, here is another Kutmah mix for the Sketchbook radio show.

Let’s go back to Gil Scott-Heron one more time: Ninja Mixdump just posted an old concert from 1977. You can listen to the stream on Mixcloud or find the download link over here.

Georgia Anne Muldrow remixes Suite for Ma Dukes

LA’s Georgia Anne Muldrow steps up to record a remix of Miguel Atwood-Ferguson’s Suite for Ma Dukes.

Remixing Suite for Ma Dukes is a brave undertaking. Several producers and MCs at first accepted and then declined the job. In the end we think we got the right person. It is with great pleasure on the week of Mothers Day to release this remix. Done while mothering by none other than Georgia Anne Muldrow.

You have to visit the VTech website for the fullscreen version, there you can also download an MP3 of that remix.

Georgia Anne Muldrow remixes IG Culture

In September 2008, I euphorically wrote about the remixes of IG Culture’s Zen Badizm album. Fast forward to 2010 and it seems they have been forgotten by now, including the label guys.

IG Culture © Jan T. Sott

Only today IG Culture reminded us about one of them, the remix from Georgia Anne Muldrow. IG doesn’t mention whether it will ever get a proper release, but he tells us to “look out for the NSM refit coming soon!” Keep your fingers crossed.

March 23, 2010 Removed the file on request, you can still listen to it on the Holy Roller blog.

The Clonious – Armoury Hardaway

With The Clonious’ debut Between the Dots finally out in stores, L.A. Record is giving away a track from the album featuring Georgia Ann Muldrow and Dudley Perkins. To give it some more boost, I’m adding another track from a compilation of last year’s Elevate festival (nice line-up!).

If you didn’t know, The Clonious is Vienna-based Paul Mohavedi and together with Dorian Concept one of the signings on Affine Records. His album, however, was released on Ubiquity Records and is available on vinyl and digital formats.

As mentioned before, the track above was taken from a compilation which you can get for free over at zero”. While you’re at it you should also have a look at last year’s edition (Dorian Concept alert!), which also comes for free.

Remix from Floating Points Ensemble

Just a short clip, but still something you should watch out for: Floating Points (or the Floating Points Ensemble) contributes this remix for the upcoming release from Bei Bei & Shawn Lee.

The track features Georgia Ann Muldrow on vocals and will be available on limited edition 10-inch through Ubiquity on September 8th.

Zen Badizm Remixes

Japanese label Freedom School has announced a remix EP of IG Culture’s Zen Badizm. The scheduled release is this September and it will feature the original version of Girl U Need a Change of Mind, and remixes from Georgia Ann Muldrow and IG Culture himself.

Also, the previously rumored Kaidi Tatham album has been confirmed (in Japanese!) on Freedom School’s website, release date still unknown.

Mar 22, 2010 Who would have thought there are news on this one after such a long time. IG Culture posted the Georgia Anne Muldrow remix on the Holy Roller blog. Probably still coming out?
