Weekend Mixtapes #49

It’s been good to catch up on some mix shows lately, and I think there are a couple of stellar ones in this latest edition of weekend mixtapes.

Here’s a top 5 entry for best Hessle Audio shows of the year, as Ben UFO plays an exclusive recording by Terrence Dixon that nobody should miss, ranging from spaced out jazz to techno proper.

Mr Beatnick is joined by the rest of the Pride of Gombe pack on his NTS Radio show. Listen to 2 hours mixed b2b by Lukid, Samoyed, Astro:Dynamics, Kelpe, Adam Oko and the host of the show.

My favourite record of December turns out to be Hashman Deejay‘s debut album “Sandopolis”, released this week on the label Future Times. Had to check out some of his DJ mixes as well.  Here’s one recorded at this year’s Dekmantel Festival.

What can I say, two hours of records selected by Floating Points and Four Tet, playing their recently found records from all over the world.

And lastly, dont’t miss out on the December edition of Funkineven‘s Apron show on NTS Live.

Weekend Mixtapes #46

Whenever summer approaches, I reach for my dub records more often for an appropriate soundtrack to the pressing heat. And since it’s not far from there to dub techno, here’s a my favourite mixtape of the month. Berlin-based production duo youANDme, who put together a two hour mixtape full of deep and dubby sounds for the Inverted Audio podcast.

More uptempo sounds can be heard on the latest XLR8R Podcast, selected and mixed by Apron Records-founder Funkineven. Since I missed it before, let me also throw in their previous podcast by Call Super.

I don’t know why I was so surprised, but I’ve really become fond of the new Prins Thomas album (listen on Spotify). Give it a try, if you haven’t! The Norwegian DJ and producer dropped by the Beats in Space to play records for more than an hour.

Listen to a recording of Andrés, who played for more than four hour last May in Cologne’s Roxy club.

We’ll end this selection with a couple of radio shows: Matthewdavid’s latest Mindflight Meditations episode features special guest Mndsgn, while Carlos Niño’s Spaceways Radio has new age musician Iasos. Listen to new music from Dego, Four Tet and Dorian Concept on the latest Benji B show.

Weekend Mixtapes #44

The latest Weekend Mixtapes largely consists of stuff we meant to post last week, but that should not worry you as there are some exceptionally good entries among them.

Funkineven‘s latest features about 60% music forthcoming on his own Apron Records label, including bits from Kyle Hall, Jay Daniel or Seven Davis Jr. Not to be missed!

The same goes for Theo Parrish and Dego, who took over the Do You show from the other day. Yup, that’s Theo Parrish and Dego McFarlane in one show!

Following the excellent FACT Mix by MGUN, London’s Fabric put out an exclusive Wild Oats mixtape by the Detroit producer.

You might have heard that Martyn is one of the many artists to have signed on Ninja Tune recently. And since he’s completed a new album for the label, Mixmag asked them to contribute a mixtape.

I might be late to the game, but the last Tom Trago album on Rush Hour has really grown on me in the last couple of weeks and months. A good reason to have an eye on the Amsterdam-based producer’s doings.

And lastly, let me add Daedelus‘ most recent Entropy Sessions for dublab!

Seven Davis Jr. – P.A.R.T.Y. EP

Following a release on Kutmah’s IZWID label and a some teasing from Funkineven, there’s finally some news about the new Seven Davis Jr record. Titled “P.A.R.T.Y.”, the Los Angeles-based producer’s new 12-inch will be released on Apron Records in only a couple of weeks time. These snippets should give you a better idea of how the real thing is going to sound before you can pick it up in your favourite record store on March 11, 2014!

February 28, 2014 The guys at Hyponik have a new 69-minute mix by the man

Weekend Mixtapes #36

Digger’s Digest out of Paris made a great french jazz mix for the Jazz Meet Radio Show by Nik Weston, pure vibes. I definitely need more of this in my life.

Similar to this, Gilles Peterson made a mix of his favourite british jazz funk records for Ninja Tune’s Solid Steel Radio. Still not enough of Mr. Peterson, you could listen to Majestic Mood’s new Groove Merchants radio show which has a nice little interview with him.

Cologne’s Damiano von Erckert did the latest mix for Radio Juicy. Playing Sun Ra next to Omar S is always appreciated.

And in case you missed it -which would be hard to believe- FunkinEven did this week’s mix for Resident Advisor. Proper house music with some nice exclusives.

Tetsuo throws in two more mixes, Bullion‘s latest on the Boiler Room mix and James Murphy playing at the DFA 12th anniversary party.

Have a great weekend!

Weekend Mixtapes #31

Okay, I’m in the middle of something and I’ll be gone for a couple of days. So, this will be a very quick rundown of mixtapes worth checking out this weekend.

FaltyDL invited Loefah and Dego to play with him on NTS Live
Kyle Hall B2B FunkinEven at the Boiler Room
Pépé Bradock did a very special mix for Roof.fm
– Detroit’s Rick Wade was invited to play on the Smugglers Inn podcast
Jam City on the latest Resident Advisor podcast
The New Jerusalem hosted by Bullion
– …and another Boiler Room session by Jeremiah Jae

Have a nice weekend all!

FACT TV: Phoneline

I wanted to post the first video the other day, but I guess it makes more sense to post both these videos about the track Phoneline. So here we got FunkinEven showing how the track came about, and in the second video Fatima joins him for an interview.

The Phoneline EP has been released on Eglo Records and is available from BoomkatPhonica and Rush Hour have it for pre-order.

August 3, 2012 Also, here’s video of FunkinEven & Fatima’s in-store session at Phonica Records

FunkinEven – Roland’s Jam

Eglo Records has been treating us good in the last couple of months. First a new EP by Fatima, followed by another Floating Points this week. And next up, it seems, is a new FunkinEven record, at least there’s a new video announcing a new 12-inch.

The video was directed by Inumikaku and features cameos from Fatima. Vinyl release to be confirmed.

Mixtape Monday.. on a Tuesday?!

Just a quick one for the latest edition of Mixtape Monday, so let’s get started.

The latest edition of Electronic Explorations has a mix I’m very excited about. It comes from New York’s Machinedrum, who also got an album in reach.

Glasgow’s LuckyMe always has mixtapes worth checking out, but this time it’s their very own Eclair Fifi having a guest spot on URB’s podcast.

Last weeks’s FACT podcast had a mix from Silkie, which reminds us the London based producer readies his follow-up to our much loved City Limits.

And lastly grab this B2B session from Kyle Hall and FunkinEven. Over and out!

Update Ooops, I just figured it’s not even Monday today!

TMI presents FunkinEven

London’s The Most Influential sat down with FunkinEven to talk about his musical influences, cutting hair to buy records, and they also get a rare opportunity to look at some of the gear he’s using.

FunkinEven is signed on Eglo Records and released three EPs on the label.

Weekly Bits 11/2010

With the RBMA in London being over, the academy’s daily newspaper is now available for the public. You can download all 24 issues as PDF files.

Also from the RBMA website are these two videos from the Brainfeeder Sessions, they capture moments from Gaslamp Killer‘s DJ set and Dorian Concept‘s live-show. For the latter I also got a download link for you.

From SpineTV comes a documentary about London’s Eglo label, the home to Floating Points, Fatima and Funkineven. You might also want to check out the brand new Soul Glo music video.

I was about to post you snippets of Erykah Badu’s upcoming album, but they have been removed in the meantime. You can still win a print of the album’s artwork or download the leaked track Strawberry Incense.

Another anticipated album is finally in stores: F’s Energy Distortion is available on CD and digital. Vinyl lovers have to get it split over three EPs.

There are also a couple of mixtapes you might want to check out. FACT Magazine’s latest podcast was put together by Bristol dubstep producer Peverelist. Berlin’s Robot Koch did a mix for Electronic Beats Radio and Demus of 2 Banks of 4 is featured on the latest OFFtrack radio-show.
