Mixtape Monday #32

Just a quick fix of mixtapes I enjoyed over the last couple of weeks.

Following Prefuse73’s XLR8R podcast, he and his Sons of the Morning-partner Teebs put together another one for Self-Titled magazine.

When I’m not listening to the Hessle Audio radio show on Rinse.fm, I’m more than happy to track down other mixes by Ben UFO and company. The Essential Mix is still a big deal and—annoying as Pete Tong’s flat introductions are—you might want to grab this new one featuring Ben.

Safe House USA added the fourth edition of their Stay the Night series and it’s been nicely put together by Night Slug’s Girl Unit. Meanwhile, Fantastic Mr Fox did that for oki-ni.

If you heard that new track by Burial and Four Tet, you might want to download the Rinse show were the rip is taken from.

With all the hype about yet-another Grand Theft Auto, I’m sure you listened to Flylo FM already. Otherwise, here you go!

And lastly, I’d like to sneak my revised version of last year’s Colectivo Futuro podcast. Music for autumn!

Weekend Mixtapes

Not much time to go into this, but I wanted to share these three mixtapes before I sign off for the rest of the weekend.

Hit and Hope‘s very own Klic has made a contribution to Jay Scarlett’s Ampsoul Generation podcast. Doesn’t look like there’s a download, but what’s wrong with a stream?

Second in line is 2562‘s guestmix for Solid Steel in which he plays some gems from Aardvarck, Samoyed and an all new Dorian Concept tune.

The latest Essential Mix comes from 3024 founder Martyn. If you can over Pete Tong’s annoying commentary, it awaits you with a broad selection of dance music. Spotted a download over here.

Pearson Sound Essential Mix

Still can’t get enough of the Jamie xx Essential Mix but you wouldn’t mind something different for a while? I know the feeling and by the look at the tracklist I’m confident that David Kennedy delivers a good follow-up. A selection of techno, dubstep, house and whatever lies in between.01. Mixtape Monday #20

I haven’t been feeling that well lately, but that also means I had a lot of time to go through some mixes. This week I want to catch up on some I’ve been enjoying in the last couple of days.

My favourite comes from FaltyDL, who is also one of my favourite producers these days. He’s got a new album coming out this year and talked to Dummy Mag about that. And yes, he also made them a pretty good mix. No tracklist, but I’ve spotted some bits by Floating Points and Oriol.

Coming in as second is this live recording by Greymatter, who’s been playing in São Paulo the other week. The whole thing was recorded and is now available from his SoundCloud page.

Last week, Benji B had a chat with the legendary Carl Craig on his radio show. For me that show was a first highlight of the year, as they revisited some of my favourite music and Carl had some nice stories to share (I never heard that Recloose story in detail!) While the show is still on the iPlayer (where you should always support your favourites), you might want to download the show for later.

While we’re at Carl Craig, you might also want to get your hands on the Essential Mix.

If you prefer some darker sounds, check out Untold‘s guest mix for Clash Magazine, it’s been around for a while already. And for more of that soun check Pinch‘s contribution to the Resident Advisor podcast.

An all guesmix for Spine Radio comes from Seiji, who plays a similiar selection as on his recent SEIJI3 Promo Mix.

Austrian producer Innaseen has sent me some of his music in the past, but I never got around writing about it. His Train Wreck Mix for RBMA Radio is something I don’t want to leave unmentioned.

Lastly, here’s the all new FACT Podcast, put together by another hero of mine: Photek, whose comeback already made a major impact this year.

Hudson Mohawke Essential Mix

Following the release of his debut album Butter, Hudson Mohawke has already been featured on radio shows like Deviation or Viral Radio. However, it’s safe to assume that many will consider his Essential Mix the best show this year, unregarding how much hate for Pete Tong you got.

Reading the tracklist should be enough to make your jaw drop already. It features two hours of music, including tons of unreleased tunes and enough collaborations to fill the net with gossip for weeks.

Hudson Mohawke01. Loops Haunt – Dusk Mechanics
02. Machine Drum – Sakatak

Nov 29, 2009 As Mary Anne Hobbs pointed out, listening on the iPlayer will let the BBC know the people want Hudson Mohawke!

Flying Lotus Essential Mix

The Flying Lotus, primary subject of many of the blogs I read, has done an Essential Mix. You know, the popular show on British public radio. The show that wouldn’t need a radio-host, but instead got the most annoying of all..

So, Essential Mix with Flying Lotus! That means two hours of music which the grandnephew of Alice Coltrane represents. Some Daedalus, Samiyam, Nosaj Thing, Madlib and the likes. To my suprise he also played Dimlite, in fact there’s a Dimlite remix of a Flying Lotus track! And he plays some Dorian Concept too!

For the next couple of days, you can listen to the mix on the BBC iPlayer – but you look more like you want to get it on your iPod.
