BINKBEATS Beats Unraveled

The Healer by Madlib/Erykah Badu

Dutch producer Binkbeats runs one of the most impressive YouTube channels I’ve ever come across. There he regularly covers contemporary beats with an array of (sometimes obscure) analogue equipment, an MPC and laptop.

Getting There by Flying Lotus

So far there is music from Erykah Badu, Flying Lotus and Lapalux reinterpreted. if he maintains the pattern, there will be a new track each month (hopefully!) Luckily, these invite you to repeated listens.

Without You by Lapalux

Simply. Brilliant. Stuff.

RBMA Lecture: Erykah Badu

As I’m still catching up after some days abroad, here’s the lecture with Erykah Badu at this year’s Red Bull Music Academy in Madrid. You might have seen snippets before, but this is the full session of her talking to Now-Again‘s Eothen “Egon” Alapatt.

More and more sessions are coming in, you might have seen the Paul Riser, Carsten Nicolai and Addison Groove lectures before. To stay up to date, you best subscribe to the RBMA channel on Vimeo or keep visiting that site.

Weekly Bits 41/2011

As John Cale is about to release a new album on Domino, he talked to The Quietus about Stockhausen, Velvet Underground, Warhol and the present day.

In all quietness, I’ve added the second part of Erykah Badu‘s Out My Mind Movement video to the original post. Thought I’d let you know!

The King Midas Sound mix for FACT Magazine is one of those that stayed on my iPod since it came out two years ago. Glad they are back with a new one for Dummy Mag.

More recommended mixtapes are Mixmag’s Mix of the Week by Brighton based Greymatter, and Throwing Snow‘s exclusive mix for Dazed Digital.

I’ve kept my favourite finding to end this post: Mikuś Musik uploaded some truly classic radioshows, all of them aired around the year 2000. These include 4hero sitting in for Gilles Peterson, Phil Asher talking to Dominic Jacobson about the first Modaji LP (!), and shows from IG Culture, Patrick Forge and Kirk Degiorgio. You need each and every one of these shows!

The wonderful, the amazing Erykah Badu just tweeted this video and I had to share this with you.

Erykah Badu – Gone Baby, Don’t be Long

This man never stops to amaze me: following his recent debut as music video director, Flying Lotus takes on the all new video for Erykah Badu.

Also involved in the making of the video is Beeple, the guy responsible for FlyLo’s own Kill Your Co-Workers video.
