Volume 09 – mixed by Gerry Read

Around the time when our last podcast came out, UK’s Gerry Read released his debut on the Dark Arx label. That was quite some time ago and since then Gerry’s interested shifted from deep, techy dubstep to straight house music. Like on his last mixtape, Gerry continue to shows his love for house on this guestmix.

We decided against an interview this time, but if you want to find out more, Sonic Router and Get Some talked to the man a while ago.

While Gerry Read has a page on SoundCloud page, you will have to visit Dark Arx and Live Ones to hear some of his music. His forthcoming 12-inch will be released through the new Ramp Recordings sublabel Fourth Wave, snippets of that just went online.

Weekend Mixtapes

It’s been a while, so let me just update on a couple of mixes I’ve enjoyed recently.

On the occasion of having a new release out, Dorian Concept was featured on this Austrian radioshow. And they even talk in English over some of Dorian’s favourites and his new material.

Another huge favourite comes from DJ Nuts, who joined Gilles Peterson for one of his podcast sessions. Over an hour of quality Brazilian music!

It seems I missed out on a couple of recent Hotflush podcasts, but the latest comes from Twisted and it’s a recommended download.

For more hybrids between dubstep and techno, also check out the latest FACT Mix by Hessle Audio founder Pangaea or Dark Arx Podcast #5.

How about the recent show from LuckyMe’s Jacques Greene on Rinse FM?

Circus Maximus have a live-recording from French beatmaker Onra.

Last but not least comes another fine mix from Dutch Sotu the Traveller. Check his website for more of those, including another recent mix for RBMA Radio.

Gerry Read – Patterns EP

If you listened to the latest Dark Arx podcast, you’re already familiar with the tracks on their new 12-inch. Coming from West Suffolk’s Gerry Read, the Patterns EP fits well into the label’s young history, drifting somewhere between Ramadanman, Headhunter and Burial.

I haven’t spotted the 12-inch yet, but you can get the digital release directly from the label, on Boomkat, Zero” or Juno.

November 26, 2010 Interview and new a mixtape by Gerry are available on Sonic Router

Dark Arx – Blood Vein EP

Dark Arx - Blood Vein EP

Record Label

The second release on Dark Arx Recordings was already hyped up a little through their last podcast. Starting tomorrow, it will finally go on sale on 12-ich and as digital release.

Blood Vein is an atmospheric, dubstep-meets-minimal approach, standing on the shoulders of giants like Appleblim, Ramadanman, French label 7even Recordings, or Tempa’s Headhunter.

Dark Arx is a new label to look out for, and one of the few that still affords putting out music on quality vinyl.

Buy the record, support good music. You can order copies from Juno and Boomkat, for the digital release try Bleep.
