Four Tet live-set at Boiler Room

It hasn’t been for the first time that Kieran Hebden graced the Boiler Room with his music, but this latest video shows him playing one of his rare Four Tet live-shows. Listen to music from his last couple of releases, going as far back as his 2010 album There Is Love In You to my all-time favourite Beautiful Rewind, finishing off with the majestic Morning. Visuals provided by Squidsoup.

Turn up the music, switch into fullscreen, sit back and enjoy!

Co-Op Studio Session

The day following last year’s Boiler Room-hosted Co-OP reunion, broken beat veteran producers IG Culture, Seiji, Alex Phountzi and Jazz re:freshed host Adam Rock were joined by torchbearer Henry Wu for a recording session at Play Deep Studios. Whatever comes out of this, I’m sure many of you are craving for more. Will keep you updated if there are any news on this!

Dorian Concept & Friends

As you might have noticed, I’m rather busy with other things than blogging lately. But it’s always worth taking the time when there’s some Dorian Concept related news, don’t you agree? It’s still a month to go until his new album Joined Ends drops on Ninja Tune, but the Vienna-based producer couldn’t help it but play a couple of new tunes at yesterday’s Boiler Room event in his hometown. He also brought some friends, namely his fellow Affine family consisting of Cid Rim & The Clonious, Sixtus Preiss et al.

A couple of mixes

I’m not gonna let you wait until the Friday for another edition of Weekend Mixtapes, for I’ve got a couple of mixes to share with you right now!

Let’s start with the oldest in the bunch, a nice selection of Brazilian tunes put together by Floating Points. To get you in the mood for the next Brazil game or simply to have a good time. Leave a shout on Sam’s SoundCloud page if you like this!

Next up, listen to music from the private collection of Now-Again founder and Stones Throw associate Egon. Also available as video via Boiler Room LA.

Berlin Community Radio is continuously putting out quality mixes from some of my favourite artists. Most recently, they had Hyperdub-signed Laurel Halo in their studio, playing a wide selection from jazz and folk to dub techno.

Listen to a Kode9 set recorded at London’s Fabric the other day, playing what sounds like mostly records from his label Hyperdub. He also shared his Maida Vale session with Spaceape from a couple of years back.

While I’ve never met LD in real life, I’ve know him since the early days of the Brownswood Forum. His Spacebass show once started as a podcast before making the jump to London’s NTS Live. Enjoyed this one a lot when it was broadcasted the other day!

Mr Beatnick – Boiler Room Mix

I’ll leave you for tonight with a mixtape by London’s very own Mr Beatnick, who played some records for the folks at the Boiler Room x Sounds of the Universe event back in November 2013. Become one of those folk, stream or download the mix, and have a nice one, everbody!01. Axel Boman – New Krau Era
02. Galcher Lustwerk – Neva Seen
03. Mark E – Midland Nights
04. Nautiluss – Aerochrome
06. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs & Eats Everything – Lion, The Lion (Gerd’s Deep Dub)

Weekend Mixtapes #39

It’s been a good week (and month) for mixtapes, shall we start with our selection for the weekend?

Ben UFO’s and Pearson Sound’s show on Rinse FM is one of the few I make an effort to listen to on a regular basis. While I recommend tuning in every Thursday, let me highlight the show from August 8th (might go offline soon!)

To keep the uptempo vibes, check out another Boiler Room session from Nutriot Podcast contributor Gerry Read, who is about to release another of those fine 12-inches on Fourth Wave.

Following releases on Rush Hour and the Actress-operated Werkdiscs, check out Moiré‘s most excellent FACT mix from earlier this week.

Our Twitter followers might have noticed us going all crazy about the last Mr Beatnick radio show on NTS Live. He himself called it his best show all year, so make sure to take a good listen!

Los Angeles’ Julia Holter released her debut on Domino Records this week. On that occasion, she was asked to put to a very special mix called People Dreaming In Church.

And lastly, don’t sleep on Alexander Nut‘s show from last Saturday (PS: he’ll be live in about an hour or 12.00 GMT)

Weekend Mixtapes #36

Digger’s Digest out of Paris made a great french jazz mix for the Jazz Meet Radio Show by Nik Weston, pure vibes. I definitely need more of this in my life.

Similar to this, Gilles Peterson made a mix of his favourite british jazz funk records for Ninja Tune’s Solid Steel Radio. Still not enough of Mr. Peterson, you could listen to Majestic Mood’s new Groove Merchants radio show which has a nice little interview with him.

Cologne’s Damiano von Erckert did the latest mix for Radio Juicy. Playing Sun Ra next to Omar S is always appreciated.

And in case you missed it -which would be hard to believe- FunkinEven did this week’s mix for Resident Advisor. Proper house music with some nice exclusives.

Tetsuo throws in two more mixes, Bullion‘s latest on the Boiler Room mix and James Murphy playing at the DFA 12th anniversary party.

Have a great weekend!

Not exactly a mixtape, but a teaser to the upcoming Yatha Bhuta Jazz Combo album, a collaboration between Onra and Buddy Sativa.

And to finish off this week’s selection, here’s a true diamond: check out this massive Rhythm & Sound DJ-set recorded in Detroit back in 2006 (and don’t let those Windows sounds drive you crazy, unfortunately they’re part of the recording!)

Weekend Mixtapes #31

Okay, I’m in the middle of something and I’ll be gone for a couple of days. So, this will be a very quick rundown of mixtapes worth checking out this weekend.

Weekend Mixtapes #25

As the weekend is about to kick off, the internet has a very special selection of mixtapes this week. Let’s have a look at them.

With his much anticipated third album Nebula Dance finally in stores, Brighton’s Ital Tek is about to tour the U.S. in the coming weeks. He also did a mixtape for Self-titled Mag and picked his 10 favourite footwork tracks for Dummy.

Another album to look out for is Kid Kanevil and Daisuke Tanabe’s Kidsuke, which will be out on November 2nd. In the meantime, check out their mixtape for Finest Ego’s Monthly Mix.

Next up, we got a triplet of uptempo mixes: London’s xxxy got to play a show on Russian radio Follow Me Studio, Scuba showcases lots of new Hotflush material on his mix for FACT Magazine, and you can stream Objekt‘s 2-hour mix from this year’s Dimension Festival.

Boiler Room invited Berlin’s Dixon & Âme to play at their ADE party the other day, that’s 4 hours in the mix!

Hyperdub’s first lady Ikonika did a guestmix for Rob Booth’s Electronic Explorations and she included a previously unheard remix of hers.

Legendary Philadelphia DJ and producer King Britt was approached by the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage “to curate a show on Afrofuturism and its influences on me and my compositional work.”

Hot on the heels of his new single on Brainfeeder, London’s Lapalux stopped by at Los Angeles’ KCRW to do a mini mix.

The oldie of the week comes from Jneiro Jarel, who posted his Houston We Have A Solution Mix made in 2005 (careful, it’s a Facebook link!)

And lastly, let us remind you we had two new mixes out ourselves: Lokiboi contributed to our own podcast series, and Tetsuo did a mix for Colectivo Futuro.

Weekend Mixtapes

There are some classic MoMA PS1 mixes that I still listen to every no and then, like those by Prefuse 73 or FaltyDL. The latest edition comes from London’s Om Unit and it has all it takes to become another classic.

As warm-up for this year’s Dimensions Festival, Aus Music’s Midland has done a mix for the XLR8R Podcast.

Following his brilliant mixtape for our own podcast, London’s K15 has come up with a new one. On X/O he once again proves his knowledge across genres – recommended download!

Restless Soul’s Phil Asher plays house and techno classics made in the city of Detroit.

I said it before and you probably know by now: Boiler Roomis always worth a visit, but I’d like to highlight Shlohmo‘s DJ mix from the LA edition some weeks back.

And lastly, an insane 12-hour mixtape I came across via Gilles Peterson‘s blog: Black Classical takes us on a journey through 57 years of Spiritual Jazz. No typo – 12 hours!

Sons Of The Morning Live at Boiler Room

The guys behind Boiler Room have done it again, for the third appearance in Los Angeles they invited the Sons Of The Morning, the latest project by Prefuse 73 and Brainfeeder’s Teebs.

A video recording is also available on YouTube, or you can download the set after subscribing to the Boiler Room podcast!

Weekend Mixtapes

We started the week with a Mixtape Monday, now it’s the time to think about the weekend. Here are five mixtapes to get you started.

London’s Tempo Clash collective celebrated its first anniversary about a month ago. They’ve been kind enough to record the B2B set by Kutmah and Om Unit. To get a glimpse of the vibe, stream or download the recording.

I didn’t expect Dego to allow his set recorded at the Boiler Room to go online, but that’s exactly what happened earlier this week. That’s a must have!

There used to be a new Pete Concrete mix every 6 months or so, but for his latest one he took a bit longer. His new one is called Psycho in Active and it’s as good as always.

George FitzGerald‘s releases on Hotflush and Aus Music are always worth checking out, but there aren’t that many of his mixes available. This week, he’s contributed one to the XLR8R Podcast.

And to round this up properly, check out the new iO guestmix for Hyponik. Just to make sure, iO is not to be confused with these cats!
