Dorian Concept & Friends

As you might have noticed, I’m rather busy with other things than blogging lately. But it’s always worth taking the time when there’s some Dorian Concept related news, don’t you agree? It’s still a month to go until his new album Joined Ends drops on Ninja Tune, but the Vienna-based producer couldn’t help it but play a couple of new tunes at yesterday’s Boiler Room event in his hometown. He also brought some friends, namely his fellow Affine family consisting of Cid Rim & The Clonious, Sixtus Preiss et al.

Okmalumkoolkat – Holy Oxygen

A couple of weeks back, Austrian label Affine Records officially announced a collaboration between South African MC Okmalumkoolkat and the label’s very own Cid Rim and The Clonious. The track above gives us a first impression of the 4-track EP that will be available on August 4th, 2014. I’m little surprised about the production quality on the track, though I might have to get used to the lyrical side of it (I love Okmalumkoolkat’s work with LV though!) Let’s see, some things just take more time to shine and I’m confident Holy Oxygen will not disappoint. Watch out!

Holy Oxygen I

Considering the year-long hiatus since Affine last released a record, 35 seconds of teasing doesn’t sound like a lot. But given the label’s consistency in quality, there is much more to it. For once, it marks the return of The Clonious and LuckyMe rising star Cid Rim, to the label. The third member in Holy Oxygen is South African MC and former LV-collaborator Okmalumkoolkat.

“Holy Oxygen I” will hit stores around the world in July 2014.

Ogris Debris – Something Good

Austrian duo Ogris Debris, label-mates of Dorian Concept and Cid Rim, released a new 12-inch on disko404 earlier this month. One of its highlights has to be the remix by Hyperdub’s Scratcha DVA, but let’s take a listen to all of the tracks, shall we?

The record is already out in the wild, you can pick it up on vinyl from your trusted record dealer or buy the digital files from Boomkat, Juno and the likes.

S.Maharba – French Maid

One of my New Year’s resolutions was to feature less beat-driven tunes and focus more on the musical side again. Another resolution should’ve been to listen to a track from start to finish before judging it, because I almost missed out on the first 12-inch on BTS Records.

As you can hear, S.Marharba starts quite bass-heavy but eventually makes a turn towards more teebsy territories with all those dreamy guitar samples. Beats and music – I’m glad I gave it another try!

The record has been out for about two weeks now. It’s limited to only 500 copies on clear vinyl and it comes with a remix from The Clonious on the flipside. Available on the BTS shop only!

Affine presents What A Fine Mess We Made

Oh my, the tracklist looks so good but it sounds even better. We’re talking about the first compilation from Affine Records, the Austrian label that broght us Dorian Concept, The Clonious, Ogris Debris and most recently Cid Rim.

The 14 tracks were all previously unreleased and among them you’ll find a couple of new tracks, even some new artists and some of those old tracks, but all remixed in one way or the other.

Take – Neon Beams (The Clonious Remix)

The Take Remix Contest is over and it’s Vienna’s Clonious who won the top spot – a release on the official remix album.

Already on that album are mixes from Tokimonsta, Mux Mool, Alex B, Low Limit, Teebs, FaltyDL, Shlohmo and many others. Watch out for a release early next year!

Cid Rim vs The Clonious – Full Nelson EP

Cid Rim vs The Clonious - Full Nelson EP

Cover Artwork

Today is the day, that the latest release from fine Viennese label Affine hits the stores. It is a split single by The Clonious and newly signed Cid Rim, both members of JSBL – alongside Dorian Concept.

While fans of Between the Dots will not be disappointed by Clonious’ new material, to me it’s Cid Rim’s fresh approach that makes Full Nelson a must-have record. I’m just making sure this doesn’t stay this year’s best kept secret.A1. Cid Rim – Jerome
A2. Cid Rim – Chop Suey Cide Step
A3. Cid Rim – Bear Hug Love
B1. The Clonious – Truth (feat. Paul Randolph)
B2. The Clonious – Earringer
B3. The Clonious – Paul´s Suite

Below you can listen to snippets of the tracks on the release:

Like the previous Affine release, Ogris Debris’ Aery, the cover artwork is done by Viennese designer and illustrator Leonhard Lass. If you like him, you should also check out fellow Brazilian Rubens, we had an article on him before.

If the music got your mouth watery for more already, watch out for Cid Rim’s forthcoming 7-inch On! on The Loud Minority. Though it’s still four months away, you better put it on your list as 300 copies sell quickly.

JSBL – Jimbo (Sam Irl Dub)

Taken from their forthcoming remix EP, Austrian supergroup JSBL gives away a free dub mix courtesy of Sam Irl. Supergroup? JSBL (Jacob’s Salty & Bamboozling Ladder) are Microkorg wizard Dorian Concept, The Clonious, Cid Rim and Willi Rosner.

Austrian label Affine Records will release the digital-only EP featuring mixes from Urbs, Dorian Concept, Crackazat and Sam Irl on June 6th, 2010. You can already pre-order on Juno and it should be available directly from the label soon. In the meantime you can download this track!

The Clonious presents his Vienna

No need to introduce The Clonious, young Vienna-based producer with his debut album Between The Dots out on Ubiquity Records, and good friend of Dorian Concept.

He has put out this DJ mix, I suspect it was made for Lefto’s radio-show – that’s what it says on the SoundCloud page.

As the name suggests, he showcases all kinds of music from his hometown Vienna, including some unreleased gems from Dorian and himself. If you prefer streaming or you just want to leave a comment, you can do it here!

The Clonious – Armoury Hardaway

With The Clonious’ debut Between the Dots finally out in stores, L.A. Record is giving away a track from the album featuring Georgia Ann Muldrow and Dudley Perkins. To give it some more boost, I’m adding another track from a compilation of last year’s Elevate festival (nice line-up!).

If you didn’t know, The Clonious is Vienna-based Paul Mohavedi and together with Dorian Concept one of the signings on Affine Records. His album, however, was released on Ubiquity Records and is available on vinyl and digital formats.

As mentioned before, the track above was taken from a compilation which you can get for free over at zero”. While you’re at it you should also have a look at last year’s edition (Dorian Concept alert!), which also comes for free.

The Clonious – Tribute To The Walnut Rollercoaster

His first EP Adroit Adventures is already available on Ubiquity Records and the album Between The Dots will follow in mid-October. Paul Movahedi, better known as The Clonious, is friends with Dorian Concept and an equally talented musician from Austria.

The track above dates back to 2003 and was taken from a download-only compilation on 12rec. While it’s not en par with his latest productions, it’s one of his first tracks to put him on the map and something a collector wouldn’t want to miss.

The Clonious will play his first live-concert this weekend in his hometown of Vienna, which will hopefully be succeeded by a tour abroad. In the meantime, you can listen to more of his music on RBMA Radio.
