As you might have noticed, I’m rather busy with other things than blogging lately. But it’s always worth taking the time when there’s some Dorian Concept related news, don’t you agree? It’s still a month to go until his new album Joined Ends drops on Ninja Tune, but the Vienna-based producer couldn’t help it but play a couple of new tunes at yesterday’s Boiler Room event in his hometown. He also brought some friends, namely his fellow Affine family consisting of Cid Rim & The Clonious, Sixtus Preiss et al.
We’ve had a very special relationship with Dorian Concept since the early days of this blog (also our first interview!) and have been speculating about a release of his new album in autumn for some months now. As of today, the news is official: Ninja Tune announced the release of “Joined Ends” for late September and shared the track you can hear above. This also makes Dorian Concept’s relationship with the label a full circle, for some of you might remember him posting his early attempts at their forum. Well done, well done!
You can pre-order Joined Dots from the Ninja Store, before it drops in record stores on September 22, 2014.
July 11, 2014 You can also listen to the track on Spotify!
Radio presenter, DJ and overall great person Mamiko Motto teamed up with our favourite Irish label All City (well, that’s an easy, if not an obvious pick) to put out a new compilation. Titled Amada, I guess you can call it a spiritual successor to the Beat Dimensions compilations — on the terms of 2013. So it’s maybe no suprise to find the likes of James Pants, Mwëslee or Dorian Concept are among the 13 featured artists. And since there’s still no word about the (supposedly finished) album from the latter, we’re more than happy to present his track off the compilation.
Amada will be in stores on November 8, 2013 and it will be available on vinyl, CD and (wild guess) digital.
Ever since Dorian Concept has been “fooling around” on the microKORG, he’s had a remarkable career that lead to a contract with Ninja Tune (it was their forum where he shared some of his first tracks – a looooong ago!) He’s back at the Red Bull Music Academy, this time sharing tricks he’s using while playing his beloved synthesizer, including a take on Trilingual Dance Sexperience.
Thanks Gavin for the tip-off!
We’re expecting (or at least hoping) to hear news about Dorian Concept‘s next album on Ninja Tune, but unfortunately no such statement has been made yet. Instead, the Viennese producer gives away the track Booth Thrust for free. That’s not to be confused with Toothbrush but a good one nevertheless.
The Letherette debut album might still be more than two months away, but Ninja Tune has started the promotion for the record nevertheless. So this is the new video directed by Konx-Om-Pax and earlier this week a Dorian Concept remix was making the rounds. Pretty exciting stuff if you ask me, just too bad the album won’t be out before April 15, 2013. Sigh!
March 7, 2012 As Ninja Tune just announced, D&T will be out on March 11, 2013
Here are some things from earlier in the week worth noting, all of them previously mentioned on our Twitter feed.
There will be a documentary on Los Angeles’ Stones Throw label titled Our Vinyl Weighs A Ton and you can support it through their Kickstarter campaign.
Dummy Magazine asked Kuedo to pick the 10 best The Future Is Yet To Come tracks, “10 most forward-thinking, out-there tracks that he takes inspiration from.”
You probably streamed the new Lukid album while it was up on the Resident Advisor homepage earlier this week.If you missed it, Lonely At The Top will be out tomorrow on vinyl and CD. Also read this interview with the man over on Sonic Router.
Following the recent drum & bass revival, check out LV’s remix from the new Débruit EP on Civil Music. Also comes with remixes from Kelpe, Mwëslee and Fulgeance.
New York’s Visualized did a nice video on the story behind the iconic Joy Division cover artwork for Unknown Pleasures.
Here’s a mixtape we wanted to include in the last Weekend Mixtapes selection, it’s West Norwood Cassette Library‘s contribution to the Fill Yer Boots podcast.
And lastly an oldie by Dorian Concept he forgot about himself, available for free download on the Dublab website!
While we’re eagerly awaiting news about a forthcoming Dorian Concept album on Ninja Tune, the Viennese producer lent his talents to his friend, the drummer and producer Cid Rim. After a couple of delays, Cid Rim has finally landed his debut album on Glasgow’s LuckyMe label, home to many success stories of recent years. And it’s a great album I’d like to recommend to our readers, it brings up memories of 2009’s When Planets Explode while remaining a strong record of its own.
As for the remix above, it’s part of the 10 track debut album. Unfortunately, it’s a digital only release, but why am I always expecting to speak to a vinyl-only audience? Get you copy from Bleep, iTunes or wherever you buy digital music.
It’s been terribly quiet around Dorian Concept, but given the possibility he might be working on a new album, that’s probably not such a bad thing. However, a couple of days ago this collaboration with Cinematic Orchestra’s Tom Chant popped up. The two figures have played several live concerts together, so maybe releasing music together is the natural result of this.
The track is part of the Cinematic Orchestra compilation In Motion pt. 1, which also features new material by Austin Peralta and Grey Reverent. All of this will be out on June 25th and it will be available on 2-LP, CD and several digital formats. Pre-order from Ninja Tune, Amazon or iTunes.
TASCFORCE is a new project by Vienna’s Sam Irl which got it’s name from the TASCAM 424 on which everything was recorded and mixed. Like this cover version of Trilingual Dance Sexperience by his homie Dorian Concept.
While you can download this track for free, it’s actually an invitation to more TASCFORCE material. All of the music was produced on vintage gear such as the Roland TR-808, Oberheim Matrix 6 or Roland Juno 106. I guess it’s inevitable to draw comparisons to the likes of Dam-Funk, but I don’t see how that’s a bad thing.
London has always been a place where you could go on a random weekend and find a party where one of your favourite DJs/producers will play the best music you ever heard. But even in such a place there are some special events and from the look at the line-up, next weekend’s Soundcrash
event could be one of them.
United at Camden’s Koko, you will get to hear DJ sets from heavyweights such as Harmonic 313, Hyperdub founder Kode9 and Eglo’s very own Alex Nut. And there’s more to it with live performances from Austrian Korgmeister Dorian Concept and another Hyperdub’s King Midas Sound.
We’re giving away two pairs of tickets and here is how you can enter the competition: If you are 18 years or older, all you have to do is leave a comment with your email address (won’t be published.) Winners will be picked randomly, but then again we’ve always had a soft spot for anecdotes. If you have a story worth telling related to any of the performing artists, that might increase your chances a little. The give-away Wednesday at midnight, London time.
Regular tickets can be ordered for £16 at Koko‘s website. The party starts at 9 pm, be there early!
Update According to this tweet, regular tickets are almost sold out!
Of course you remember Trilingual Dance Sexperience, but who would’ve thought it’s been two years since this Dorian Concept signature tune came out? His label mates Ogris Debris brought back the tune to our memories (did it ever leave?!) on Affine’s label compilation, now you can listen to the full track on SoundCloud.
If you want to keep this track, you should consider getting yourself a copy of this excellent compilation. I’d suggest you get it directly from Affine Records, otherwise you’ll find it at the usual places like Bleep, Amazon or iTunes.
With a new EP out on Ninja Tune, Microkorg wizard Dorian Concept is back on everybody’s mind (did he ever leave?) Between gigs at Sónar Tokyo and Los Angeles’ Low End Theory, he managed to put together an exclusive mix for XLR8R.

On the occasion of having a new release out, Dorian Concept was featured on this Austrian radioshow. And they even talk in English over some of Dorian’s favourites and his new material.
Another huge favourite comes from DJ Nuts, who joined Gilles Peterson for one of his podcast sessions. Over an hour of quality Brazilian music!
