Moonstarr – Instrumentals Forever

Cover Artwork

Cover Artwork

The second album from Moonstarr is finally available in the rest of the world, following the Japanese release earlier this summer.

First of all, Instrumentals Forever is not what the title suggests – an instrumental album. If you love(d) Dupont, chances are good you will like the follow-up just as much. Yes, a lot of the tracks sound like from the predecessor, the fact that this comes from Moonstarr album cannot be denied, even those (funny!) interludes are back. Call it trademark sound but when you listen more closely you will find new elements in each of the tracks, most notably the vocals. I prefer calling it Dupont 2.0, it might not be a suprise soundwise, but it’s still a great album to listen to – from start to end. Have it on repeat and you won’t even notice, it runs like a perfect loop.

01. Broken Bossa
02. Interlude 1
03. Clappy
04. Break It Down
05. Tigerfunk (feat. LAL & Guests)
06. Interlude 2
07. Get Outside
08. String Theory
09. Interlude 3
10. Who’s Bitin’ Who?
11. Fucked Up (feat. Fineprint & Sarah)
12. Interlude 4
13. Crazy Jazz
14. Interlude 5
15. Climax
16. Planets Collide (feat. Lotus Jai Nitai)
17. Love Call

Looks like the album is only available as download (spotted on Juno Download and iTunes), a vinyl LP was promised to follow. If you still prefer CDs, there seems no other choice but importing the Japanese release on P-Vine.

I think Moonstarr is the Beethoven of Broken Nova (or perhaps the Bach of Geeky Bossa?).
I mean has anyone even come close to his rmx of his own “Greed” or let alone the original??? I no thinking so!

Loving the new album! Like the review says, it does continue right where Dupont left off, but you can tell he’s onto some next ish and his production chops are completely on point! I can’t wait to hear what’s in the pipes, perhaps a collabo w/Paul OakenFu or maybe even 50¢!

Moonstarr’s second album has been playing non stop in my car for the past few weeks. The long awaited sophomore album delivers and seamlessly picks up from where Dupont left off. Refined and filled with Moonstarr’s intricate signature drum programming, funky chops and basslines. You know, the shit that makes you want to snap your neck (and your ankles too!). This is one inspiring cat!

My favorite cuts are Broken Bossa, Gonna Break It Down, and Get Outside.
