Pixelord – Lucid Freaks pt. 1
Having spent half of my youth in front of my Commodore homecomputer, I developed a love for these bleepy sounds at a young age. While I don’t remember which POKE was necessary to get the music playing, I will never forget names like Rob Hubbard or Jeroen Tel. In the early days of the second millennium, there were countless Finnish electro-outfits trying to revive those old chip-tunes. But it only got exciting in recent years, with a new generation of beatmakers stepping up. It were people like Zomby, Joker or Hayzee who inspired a whole new approach to making music out of blips and bleeps.
Pixelord is a part of that generation that I didn’t know before. Moscow-based Alexey Devyanin is the man behind this moniker and he’s not new the game. Under the name of Gultskra Artikler he has been releasing music since 2003 already.

His debut release has just been put out by the Error Broadcast, the label that put the music from Shlohmo, AEED and Swede:art on the map first. On their website, they describe this EP as “spliffed-out 8bit riddims, stumbling Hip Hop beats and a pinch of Euro Dance glam”.
