A Shirt and its Designer

Unless you follow me on Twitter, you most likely don't know about the t-shirts yet! The idea was simply to offer some shirts for fans of this blog. Also, I have been a huge fan of São Paulo based artist Rubens LP for many years already. As Rubens was so kind to actually do a design for a shirt, I wanted to feature his work on this site.

Can you introduce yourself?
My name is Rubens, 28 years, I live in São Paulo-Brazil and I'm a graphic artist.

How did you end up doing what you're doing?
I'm uneducated. Or almost. I studied Industrial Design for three years, but did not finish the university course. Also attended to some other drawing courses, when I was a kid.

What is your inspiration and how do you usually come up with a design?
It emerges all of a sudden, a fixed idea that takes place in my head. I keep visualizing for days, and then I sit on my chair and transmit to “paper”. Being inspired is a pleasant sensation. A euphoria that takes over my body and my thoughts. I feel young, fresh, renewed, and strong, when inspired.

I can provoke inspiration by seeing art, or observing nature’s charm. But I don’t wait for inspiration to create. “Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working.”, said Picasso. I paint because it makes me feel good and is the only thing I do right in life. I paint to forget about myself.

Any future projects to look out for?
I’ve been drawing animals, and think of it as a catalogue of species of Brazilian fauna. It excites me a lot, and keeps me inspired for a lot of time. Until it turns into a real catalogue, it can take years, maybe decades. Our fauna is infinite.

Another project, more advanced, is a book of feminine nudes and sex scenes. I have drawings enough for a book, and need an editor, but am too lazy for the search. Maybe it also takes decades until the book turns into reality.

How do people get in touch with you?
Visit my site and drop me a line.

Apart from his private website, you can find Rubens' commercial work on FluxusCentral.

The thing I know for sure is that I'd ask Rubens to do my cover artwork, if I was doing my own music. Well, I don't even play the triangle, but maybe you got the skill and share my love for Ruben's work.

So, let's talk about the shirts! They are available in many colors from Spreadshirt and cost only $24,99. I'm not planning to get rich with this, but I hope I can keep this site running and improve it over the years to come. Thanks for your support!
