As we’re approaching the release of Fulgeance‘s debut album on Melting Pot, here’s another cut taken from To All Of You.
You might have figured by now that every track is dedicated to a city. Last time it was London, this time we give you Tokyo – a special dedication to some Japanese producers and probably my favourite track on the album!
To All Of You will be available November 11, 2011.
Not much time for a proper post, as I wanna catch some rays of sunshine while still in Berlin. So here’s a selection of mixtapes to get you through the weekend.
-BNJMN mix for URB Magazine
-Vakula did this Mix from Daze Gone By
-Dam-Funk‘s guestmix for Beats in Space
-Deadboy‘s Halloween Mix 2011 (and last year‘s)
-Wolf Music’s KRL made a mix for TIEF London
-Kutmah played a Kool Keith Special on radio last weekend
Hope there’s something for you. I’m out, have a nice weekend!
Originally released in 1994, Claire was one of the two releases that put Vienna on my musical map (the other one being this.) The Patrick Pulsinger/Erdem Tunakan production, based on a sample by João Donato, was accompanied by remixes by Stasis and Andrea Parker (!) and was released on James Lavelle’s Mo Wax imprint.
So, that was me reminiscing about the past and my first contact with what would now be called deep house. If you heard this for the first time and want to get your hands on this, the 12-inch is relatively easy to get and not expensive either.
Just as I finished my post on Machinedrum, this email from Hotflush came in, announcing one last single before the self-titled debut album from Sepalcure finally sees its release.
While the title track will also appear on that album, the flipside I’m Alright is exclusive to this single and available as free download. You can pick up your copy starting in less than two weeks on November 7th, only to be followed by the album on the 21st.
As I was just sitting on my bed, browsing through some videos, I came across this nice interview with Machinedrum. He talks his reasons for moving to NYC, sample based hip-hop compared to making electronic music from scratch and his philophy of making music.
With Room(s) Machinedrum delivered one of my favourite albums this year. Having seen him play twice this year already, I must also urge you to check one his live-shows, whether it’s solo or as Sepalcure.
When I posted the video a bit more than a week ago, the new album by Dimlite still seemed so far away. Maybe I was expecting more teasing, maybe the Prismic Valuta Rising situation was still too present – I didn’t see this coming so soon.
As of today, you can order Grimm Reality on CD, triple 10-inch or get the digital download exclusively from Stones Throw. Both physical releases were wrapped up into a beautiful packaging by Swiss designer Anneka Beatty, some pictures are available on the Now-Again website. While Full Crate is on leave of absence at this year’s RBMA in Madrid, he left us with his latest release, an EP on new Dutch label Wonderful Ear.
On Golden Glasses the Amsterdam based producer moves away from the soulful and embraces a more electronic, UK-inspired sound. The influences on the EP can be traced back to James Blake, Hudson Mohawke and to some of the new breed of British house producers. Press play and find out for yourself!
1. Fluffy Dragons
4. Cherrie Hats (feat. Chris Turner)
The digital release is out now and available through iTunes or Amazon. For those preferring their music on a flat disc made of plastic, you can pre-order your copy at Rush Hour.
Berlin’s !K7 gives one final taster to their new DJ-Kicks which drops tomorrow. It’s one of six exclusives on the mix and it is courtesy of Bristolian Addison Groove.
There hasn’t been any mentioning whether there will be any 12-inches alongside the new DJ-Kicks. Previous editions were accompanied by EPs with tracks exclusive to the mix. In any case, Scuba‘s addition to the series will be available on CD and 2-LP.
Taken from the forthcoming Onra album Chinoiseries pt 2, Dublin’s All City label is giving us a first teaser to the record.
The download should make the wait for the release more bearable. Chinoiseries pt 2 will be available on vinyl, CD, cassette and digital download from November 15th on.
Hailing from the south of France, Fulgeance has to be considered one of the leading figures in the beat scene. This coming November sees the release of his debut album To All Of You on German imprint Melting Pot Music and as of today you get a first taste from it.
Watch out for more details and (hopefully) a review of the record before it drops on November 11, 2011.
As you should know by now, Planet Mu has finally released Kuedo‘s much anticipated solo debut Severant this week. I haven’t had a chance to listen to it by now, but the snippets sounded most promising and early reviews confirm that impression.
Whether you’re undecided or still waiting for the mailman to deliver your physical copy, you can listen to the full album below.
Apart from the obligatory CD, LP and download, Planet Mu offers Severant as a limited cassette release. Of course it’s always best to support the label directly, but you can also get your copy from Bleep, Rush Hour or even iTunes.
Just as I realized I haven’t shared a tune in a while, Kelpe has shared a free download on his SoundCloud page.
A remix for Holy Fuck that never made it on a release, so get it for free while it’s available.
As John Cale is about to release a new album on Domino, he talked to The Quietus about Stockhausen, Velvet Underground, Warhol and the present day.
In all quietness, I’ve added the second part of Erykah Badu‘s Out My Mind Movement video to the original post. Thought I’d let you know!
The King Midas Sound mix for FACT Magazine is one of those that stayed on my iPod since it came out two years ago. Glad they are back with a new one for Dummy Mag.
More recommended mixtapes are Mixmag’s Mix of the Week by Brighton based Greymatter, and Throwing Snow‘s exclusive mix for Dazed Digital.
I’ve kept my favourite finding to end this post: Mikuś Musik uploaded some truly classic radioshows, all of them aired around the year 2000. These include 4hero sitting in for Gilles Peterson, Phil Asher talking to Dominic Jacobson about the first Modaji LP (!), and shows from IG Culture, Patrick Forge and Kirk Degiorgio. You need each and every one of these shows!
Apart from the highly limited Sbjekt release, it’s been relatively quiet around SBTRKT. A look at the masked producer’s tour schedule gives us a hint as to why that is. However, he somehow managed to add his name to an incredible streak of Essential Mixes over the last couple of weeks (Julio Bashmore, Modeselektor, James Blake…)

If you followed Dimlite‘s releases so far, you know the man never repeats himself. Today, he’s given another outlook to his forthcoming album Grimm Reality and it’s quite a shift from his previous sounds.
The album will be out on November 2nd, 2011 and it’s Stones Throw sidekick Now-Again releasing it. Some excerpts are available on Dimlite’s website.
