Bullion – Magic Was Ruler

Following his brilliant You Drive Me To Plastic, his Bullionness returns with another 7-inch on the Young Turks label, the title track is available for stream below.

No idea about the b-side, maybe this will be another one-sided vinyl with an artwork on the flip. What we do know is the release date and that’s May 9th, 2011.

2562 – Fever

Following his dub/techno inspired debut Aerial, the more percussive follow-up Unbalance and several EPs under various disguises, Berlin based Dutchman 2562 has completed his third album Fever. It has been called his more disco and house flavoured album, and while it sounds nothing like that you can definitely the influences.

Fever will be released on his new label When In Doubt and you can expect it in a variety of formats, including CD, vinyl and digital download. We’ve spotted the LP for pre-order on Rush Hour and Juno, the store date is April 4th, 2011.

Mike Slott – Conducting Interview

Brooklyn based Mike Slott, a member of the LuckyMe collective, was recently visited by filmmaker Adam Saewitz. Below you can watch this short interview they did.

Matta – Release The Freq

Alright, I guess it’s pretty obvious I’m not posting this for the love of the music, but I really like the video Norwegian Kim Holm came up with for London based producer Matta. If you like deers more than wobbling basslines, you might want to turn off your sound first.

However, if you actually are into the music, it was released last year on this album.

I-Tone – 13

Coming from the far side of Russia, right by the Pacific Ocean, producer I-Tone has finished his debut LP called 13. This one stood out of the countless beats I get sent everyday, mostly for the atmospheric vibes, it all sounds like a submarine recording. You just have to listen to it yourself, just let me mention there are three remixes included towards the end. Love what I-Tone did to Erykah Badu’s classic On & On.

If you like what you just heard, head over to Bandcamp to grab yourself a copy. This is a digital release only, with one exception: if you’re living in Russia, you might be able to get your hands on the limited run of CDs – check the Ritmo Sportivo website for details!

Parra: Short for Paranoid…

Chris Read made this mini-documentary on Parra, Amsterdam’s most famous street artist, who you might know for his crazy shirts, his artwork for Rednose Distrikt and Stones Throw or the books we’ve mentioned here and there.

Weekend Mixtapes

Got some good mixtapes piled up, just the right thing you might be looking for in time for the weekend.

Chances are you already heard about the latest Rinse FM, likely because it has been the source of snippets from the latest 12-inch by Four Tet, Burial and Thom York. The show was a back to back mix by Floating Points and Four Tet and it’s available for download.

Next up, we recommend Photek‘s Fireside Chat on RBMA Radio, which is also available from unofficial sources.

We had some Om Unit news this week already, but öet us also mention his recent mixes for Munich Boiler and Glasgow’s LuckyMe label collective.

Kelpe has a new mixtape available and as usual it’s a killer selection of beats and obscure music. Let’s also remind you of the guestmix he’s done for us.

While still listening to Appleblim‘s recent contribution to the Fabric promo mixes, there’s a new one to recommend. This time it’s Eglo’s Alexander Nut on the decks.

For those in love with Blawan‘s mix for FACT Magazine, we also got this recording from Boiler Room. And don’t forget, his new 12-inch is out now on R&S Records.

Gilles Peterson plays at a Japan relief party in London tonight. For those that can’t make it, he’s got a mixtape up for stream or download.

And lastly, let us mention another one from Caribou that became available again, this time mix for Rough Trade made last year.

Om Unit – The Timps

We first mentioned the new EP from Om Unit a couple of weeks ago. It’s called The Timps, it’s finally out and it got this awesome looking video teaser (yes, triangles are still hot in 2011!)

Like this, then grab yourself a copy from your favourite record store. Or buy it from Juno, Rush Hour, Boomkat or wherever you usually order online.

March 19, 2011 Forgot to mention the video was made by Cultlovesyou

Aloe Blacc – Loving You Is Killing Me

This video first popped up two days ago, then disappeared again. Now it’s here to stay. It’s for the new single by Aloe Blacc, a name even your mother is familiar by now, thanks to the success of last year’s I Need A Dollar.

The video was directed by regular Stones Throw collaborator Ross Harris, the little dancer is Baby Bogaloo.

Ital Tek – Babel VIP

The original version has been one of my favourites on Ital Tek’s fantastic Midnight Colour album from last year. As of today, the Brighton based producer is giving away a VIP mix of the same track.

You can download over on his SoundCloud page (leace a comment.) If you’re unfamiliar with his music, here are a couple more tracks – and make sure to get your hands on that album!

SBTRKT & Sampha – Heatwave

You have probably heard this one on the latest show from Benji B, but SBTRKT just posted this to his SoundCloud page. It’s a new track with Sampha, recorded live on the show and I love those rolling drums towards the end.

The entire show is still available on the iPlayer, recordings of the show are also in circulations on the usual sites.

Reich on Reich

Classical music publishing company Boosey & Hawkes has posted a 10-minute documentary on Steve Reich, in which he talks about his early influences and some of his most important works from the last 50 years.

Reich on Reich

As part of the Steve Reich at 75 concert series, the minimalist pioneer will be playing selected cities around the world, including Barcelona for this year’s Sónar Festival.

Halls – Solace

It doesn’t happen that often that the music in my inbox gives me the creeps, but this new single from Halls is one of those releases. So here’s the video for the title track and you can read more about it after the jump.

You can listen to the entire EP over at SoundCloud or go straight for the download on Bandcamp. For more of this, you might also want to check out his previous release, called Halls EP.

Flying Lotus – Cosmogramma Alt Takes

Remember that cool augmented reality application that enabled you to listen to the alternate takes of Flying Lotus’ Cosmogramma album? Turns out those tracks will be out on 12-inch on Record Store Day – or April 16th, 2011.
